Dhoni in John Abraham's film?

Mahendra Singh dhoni might soon be seen in David Dhawan's frozen project "Hook Ya Crook" starring John Abraham. The film needs approximately 15 days of Dhoni's time to wrap up.
Apparently, John is keen to make the film see the light of day, and has taken charge of Dhoni's dates. Says David, "We're done with the film, except for the climax, for which we need Dhoni. And John is very keen to get Dhoni on board as well. Why let so much time, effort and money go to waste?" Meanwhile, Dhoni will also be seen in the music launch of the film "Kya Yahi Sach Hai" directed by retired IPS officer YP Singh.

Desi Boyz Movie Review

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
Debut director Rohit Dhawan picks an unconventional premise, but doesn’t have the courage to run with it. Desi Boyz coasts along harmlessly through its first half, with a few clever dialogues thrown in, and some pleasant chemistry between its male leads. Also abandoned at the halfway mark, is any pretense that this was trying to be a different film. Post intermission Desi Boyz becomes yet another regular ‘family entertainer’.I’m going with two out of five for Desi Boyz. Go in with modest expectations and perhaps you won’t come out dissatisfied.

DESI BOYZ is a lot of fun as the male protagonists take to pleasing their female clientele. The first hour, frankly, is akin to a roller coaster ride with lots of fascinating developments unfolding at a feverish pace. Watching the second hour of DESI BOYZ is akin to watching an entirely different film. The problem clearly lies in the fact that the screenplay doesn't hold and it tries to balance drama and fun, but with not much success. On the whole, DESI BOYZ has an entertaining first half and decent performances as its plusses, but a tedious and least compelling second hour stands out like a sore thumb. Leaves a lot to be desired!

It's the crackling chemistry between John Abraham and Akshay Kumar which makes Desi Boyz such a fun film. True, the film doesn't boast of anything that even comes close to an intelligent quotient, but the perfectly tuned tango, salsa, hip hop between the boyz gives it a spicy edge and keeps you in your seats, goofily munching your popcorns. eventually, ladies, this one is for you. Too much sizzle on screen. End result: Can't take your eyes off. Entertain yourself. Watch Desi Boyz. Tip Off: A story to accompany the zany stuff saves it from being a mindless comedy.

What’s Good: Performances; several comic punches; the music. What’s Bad: Emotional scenes are a bit hurried; some scenes are repetitive in the second half; climax looks a bit incomplete. However, in spite of these shortcomings, the fact remains that the drama is engaging and entertaining. Comedy evokes laughter at many places. Verdict:Desi Boyz is a feel good entertainer. Watch or Not?: Watch Desi Boyz for the music, comedy and performances.

Before the second half enter,Desi Boyz motors along almost tolerably. There are sloppy musical cues and an inconsistent use of narrative gimmicks and even some standard poverty=school-fees melodrama, but compared to what Kumar's been putting us through in recent months, it's almost okay, and the two boys have a fine energy in their scenes together. The sheer horror of what lies in store for us is only apparent when the Intermission word appears. "Uh-oh. We're only halfway through?" Gulp.Or from you, young Mr Dhawan. Walk away from this disaster and try harder next time. (Is it okay if we don't hold our breath just yet?)

The John, Akshay starrer is not a paisa vasool film, and the leading laides have been wasted, says NDTV's critic Vijay Vashishta.

The one thing I can say about Desi Boyz is that it's tolerable. The Dhawan boy impresses with his hold over the craft, slickness and style, and Kumar and Abraham play off each other’s personalities to make a lovable jodiAll that slick technique comes to zilch when at the end of the day, a filmmaker does little than shove the same old cliched melodrama which went out of fashion in the ‘90s down your throats.Ah well, may be I’m giving it more thought than it deserves, because frankly the film did make me laugh out loud about twice. If your expectations are that low, you may not be entirely disappointed with Desi Boyz.

A shaky first half with plot losing threads at most of times, Desi Boyz picks up post interval with much needed pace. the perfect comic-timing between with Akshay-John followed by sexiest ever chemistry between Akshay-Chitrangada makes Desi Boyz a spicy watch. Honest performances, music, fast-paced screenplay and cinematography get a thumps up. Weak storyline, poor characterization and clumsy first half are the weak points. On the whole, Desi Boyz is surely a one-time watch with Sanjay Dutt’s presence a USP of the film.

Desi Boyz starts on the very promising note with Dhawan taking care of all the relevant details. It progresses in an even better manner leaving a lot of smiles on your face. The second half does get dragged when Jerry joins college, there could have been a better way to take it forward. The climax again paces up giving it momentum and a good end. Approximately two hour long, Rohit Dhawan’s ‘Desi Boyz’ is not a bad bet this weekend as its fun, pacey and entertaining.Final Word: An entertaining watch.

YRF goes international, launches company in Hollywood

http://spot2day.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Yash-Raj-Films-YRF-Movies.jpgMUMBAI: Bollywood's prestigious production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) is now ready to make inroads in the American film industry -- it has launched a new wing, YRF Entertainment, in Hollywood that will develop and produce feature films for the US and international market.

Actor Uday Chopra will serve as the CEO of YRF Entertainment.

The new company is funded by Yash Raj Films, the 41-year old studio which was founded by Yash Chopra. Uday, who has featured as an actor in many of his father's productions like "Mohabbatein", "Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai" and "Dhoom" series, is excited about the new venture.

"My family has a deep commitment to making and distributing quality films that entertain and enlighten audiences. I share that passion, as well as a love for American films that I have had since childhood. It is that enthusiasm and my love of the creative process of filmmaking that drove me to start this new venture," Uday said in a press statement.

He has hired Jonathan Reiman to head development and production of the new company, which is currently producing and financing "The Longest Week", a comedy which stars Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde and Billy Crudup.

Uday tracked down the project after the original financier had to abandon the film and immediately fell in love with the material.

YRF Entertainment is also preparing a slate of projects that it will develop and produce from scratch.

The first such project is an untitled action-comedy by Dan Ewen of "Opposites Attract" fame about two 20-somethings who run away to pursue big dreams and become an unlikely duo.

Meanwhile, the parent company, YRF, is busy in the promotion of "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl", co-starring Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh. It releases Dec 9.

Kareena Kapoor will pair with Shah Rukh Khan yet again after RA.One in Rohit Shetty's next film.

There had been a great deal of speculation about who will be cast in the project.

Though many names including that of Katrina Kaif were being tossed around, Bebo emerged winner. The music for Rohit's film is being scored by A R Rahman.

The Bollywood actress who has been immortalised in wax at Madame Tussaud's, alos says it is an honour to be in the league of Indian luminaries like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar.

"I think being waxed at Madame Tussaud's is one of the biggest honours I have ever received. In my whole career, I think to be given this particular honour is very rare," said Kareena.

The 31-year-old, who made her debut with "Refugee" in 2000, gives credit to her fans.

"It is obviously because of you guys and all my fans who have made it possible and made my dream come true," she said.

Kareena's wax statue, which cost 150,000 pounds, was unveiled at the musuem in Blackpool Oct 27, a day after the release of her latest film "RA.One".

"I never really thought that I would be waxed or that my statue would stand besides that of famous personalities in museum.

Whether it is Mr. Bachchan, or Shah Rukh or Sachin Tendulkar.... really never thought I would be standing next to them. But thank you guys for making my dream possible," she said.

Currently, the actress has her kitty full with projects like "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu", "Agent Vinod", Reema Kagti's untitled project and Madhur Bhandarkar's "Heroine".

The Adventures of Tintin Movie Review

Ratings:4/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. A globetrotting escapade through exotic locations, the film is packed with thrilling chases and swashbuckling action atop rickety seaplanes and hulking steamers. Quirky characters are involved in solving an old-fashioned mystery about a hidden treasure without any reliance on modern gadgets, and even John Williams’ booming score has a nostalgic feel to it.Tintin purists might grumble about a handful of liberties taken by the film’s writers in the process of turning three stories into one script, but Spielberg’s film stays true to the spirit of the books. Spielberg places him at the heart of a fast-paced, colorful adventure that is too much fun to resist. I’m going with four out of five for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. It’s the kind of film that’ll bring out the boy in you. Expect to have a big smile plastered on your face throughout.

It could have ended up as a heady cocktail of the Indiana Jones and the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but The Adventures of Tintin is so much more than recycled headiness. And that's because of its brilliant new technique of filming -- motion capture animation -- that literally brings to lifeThe story too is equally enticing with loads of action to pep up the tenor of the film. But then all's well that ends well. And as Captain Haddock puts it, for there's more treasure lying deep down in the oceans that needs to be found. Sequel, Spielberg!

Sure, there are bits that work, bits that come directly from those fabulous pages, but the rest of it is strictly pedestrian, an adventure sloppily pasted together with action setpieces to glue the film and keep it from falling apart. Good-looking explosions? Absolutely. Impressive chase sequences? You bet. But that's all filler in a depressingly vacant Tintin film that steers well clear of the spirit of the books. So clear, in fact, that it throws in maudlin, clichéd lines of clunky dialogue about belief and self-worth and one's true self. Ugh. What is the point of taking Hergé's glorious world and paring it down to look more like our own?

The team works wonderfully on the technology to give us breathtaking action scenes which come at the right time to avoid any yawn plus the flirting with the actors features via motion capture tech where artistes make their presence felt in this 3D animated world. Superb.Right from the start when snowy starts showing his heroics to us we understand why this comic adaptation was planned. The action scenes are thoroughly enjoyable but the best part comes during the climax in the Moroccan city.

What’s Good: The entertaining and engaging script; the comedy and adventure; the acting; the excellent motion-capture, animation and visual effects. What’s Bad: Since the characters have not been established much, viewers who are not well-known to the Tintin stories will miss out on a lot; for those watching the film in the 3D, the dark glasses make the colours appear very dull. Verdict: The Adventures Of Tintin - The Secret Of The Unicorn is an entertaining fare that will do well at the Indian box-office, especially in the metropolitan cities

Principally adapted from The Secret of the Unicorn with snatches of The Crab with the Golden Claws and Red Rackham's Treasure, the film is a far cry from the Ellipse Nelvana cartoons that were more faithful to the source material and its bold, neat Ligne Claire (clear line) styling. But Spielberg in his first animated film (and comic adaptation) captures the dynamism of Herge's works without letting over reverence come in the way of grafting a new faced-paced, suspense-filled thriller which stays true to the lively spirit and ample humour of Herge’s volumes.

The film infuses animation with realism and what we get is a heady concoction which leaves the viewer spell bound. Overall, the film satisfies the thirst of avid animation lovers with some marvelous graphics and top notch performances. The story of course is the winner with Herge leaving a treasure of adventures which was waiting to be discovered by filmmakersWatch it if you are a Tintin fan, you won’t be disappointed. And if you are new to the world Herge and his wonder boy, then you have just stumbled upon gold.Three cheers for this one!
