Hangover 3 Movie Review

There’s no way any fan of the first Hangover film can honestly claim that The Hangover Part III is as much fun. And yet, with all its shortcomings, you have to admit The Hangover Part III contains more of a plot than the earlier films. There may be fewer surprises and not so many laugh-out-loud moments, but its twist-filled storyline ensures that you’re seldom bored.I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five for The Hangover Part III. Keep your expectations in check, and you won’t come out entirely disappointed.

It’s not often that you come out of a film feeling grubby, like you need to take a shower or partake in something cleansing like a yoga class. But that’s exactly how I felt after watching The Hangover Part III.fter seeing part 2, I like many other critics had complained about the lack of originality. But after seeing part 3, I just wished that director Todd Phillips had stuck to formula. Because this film is depressingly unfunny and almost sad in its desperation to make you laugh by pushing the limits of bad taste.

While the film is undoubtedly better than the previous instalment, it's not an out-and-out comedy as one would expect it to be. The jokes don't come in as often and they aren't as raunchy. Most of the humour is subtle and comes from your knowledge of the characters, their reactions to situationsthan their shenanigans. The WTF moments are comparatively less. Hangover 3 also takes us back to Vegas for the climax, where it all began.Honestly, what follows is more enjoyable - the end credits! Do not leave the theatre as soon as they start rolling.

They say third time's a charm. But that isn't the case with Todd Philip's latest instalment of The Hangover series. Like a stand up act that falls flat if the jokes are rehashed over a period of time, the film too seems to have overstayed its fame time and got into a rut. The problem lies with the film's material. A half-baked script and constant references to the gags from the previous films makes the effort look dull and forced. Also the 'wolf pack' despite having the same characteristics don't seem to have the chemistry they had before.

The Hangover Part III, which runs a different sort of risk by going to darker and more dangerous places than its predecessors, both artistically and emotionally. It dares to alienate the very audience that made The Hangover the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time because, well, it isn't exactly a comedy.Phillips and co-writer Craig Mazin have placed the unusual challenge on themselves of trying to create something bold and new while simultaneously remaining true to the trilogy and wrapping it all up in a satisfying way. They succeed somewhat; simply trying to be creative marks a huge improvement from part two.

The concluding film of the Hangover trilogy is definitely more entertaining than the second film but nothing beats the shock value of the original. Now that the characters are already defined and developed, the series ends with a film that is still funny in parts, surprisingly emotional in places but a crazy ride nonetheless. All in all, it will be really funny for folks who love these crazy characters, otherwise just plain amusing. Watch it if you really want to know what happens to the wolf-pack in the end. Verdict: Amusing but not entirely hilarious. Watch if you are avid fans of the wolf-pack.

The Wolfpack rides again. Or rather, it limps exhaustedly over the tundra in what is billed as the final edition of the “Hangover” trilogy. Defanged, with glazed eyes and creaking joints, these superannuated party animals try vainly to stir up some enthusiasm during a return visit to Las Vegas, the site of the first “Hangover” movie. But their heart isn’t in it. Only in a sight gag during the final credits is there a momentary flare-up of the old antic spirit. Otherwise, “The Hangover Part III” is dead. Goodbye and good riddance.

Too long by at least twenty minutes, this is a watchable film despite its conventional arc. Fans of Wake Up Sid will likely miss the original voice Mukerji revealed in his surprisingly mature debut, but with this one he shows he can do formula with as much ease. I’m going with three out of five for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. If light-hearted mush is what you’re seeking, you’re looking in the right place.

Like all rom-coms, YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI sparkles with romance, merriment and heartache, is brightly glossy and boasts of crackling chemistry between its lead actors, but Ayan makes sure the heady concoction never waters down. The best part is, he never borrows from romantic cliches that most love stories depend upon and that, in my opinion, is this film's biggest strength. Expect no unwanted melodrama, no unwelcome characters, no earsplitting background music to accentuate the proceedings...  On the whole, YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI is a revitalizing take on romance and relationships. A wonderful cinematic experience, this one should strike a chord with not just the youth, but cineastes of all age-groups. Watch this celebration of love and get mesmerized!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which liberally echoes DDLJ and every other major romance to come out of Bollywood in the last two decades. Ultimately, there is enough eye candy in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to see you through but I wish the film had more meat and less dressing. I’m going with two and a half stars. I’m disappointed because there is a truckload of talent here. What rankles is what might have been.

If YJHD had released in 2001, a month after Dil Chahta Hai, it'd be no more unique than it is today. To paraphrase a critical thought in the film, "just because (I may) have a point, doesn't mean I'm right." You're going to watch YJHD if you haven't already . You're going to watch it for Ranbir dancing to the sprightly Badtameez Dil and you're going to watch it for Deepika in her cutesy glasses. Let's just say if your expectations are in check, you won't be disappointed.

On the whole, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has tremendous entertainment value because of its fine drama, enjoyable humour, great music, lovely star value and fantastic performances. It will have a meritorious run at the box-office and keep the exhibitors very happy. Business in the big cities will be outstanding while it will go on declining as the size of the city decreases. Similarly, business in the good multiplexes will be outstanding while it will be lesser in the lesser multiplexes and in the single-screen cinema.

Youth is a many splendoured thing. An alive, fresh vibe dominates Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani invigorating you through it's entire run. The story is not novel, but the treatment is A-grade. The first half of the film is a fun-ride. Watching Madhuri Dixit do a ghagra number with Ranbir is a ceeti-moment. At intermission point, the film rightly leaves you yearning for more. The first twenty minutes of the second half is mundane. But the action comes together again at Aditi's wedding.Note: You may not like this film if a typical, zany Bollywood masala flick is not what you go for.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a bright, breezy and brassy film designed for easy consumption. What it certainly is not is ballsy. For all the big ideas about life and the dilemmas of youth that it tosses up in the air over a runtime that’s 20 minutes shy of three hours, it always opts to play safe, vacillating between thoughts of rebellion and acts of conformity. It is the erratic narrative arc that is a letdown. Overlong, sluggish and fluffy, it meanders through varied locations as the young lovers/friends seek to reconnect with each other after a few years of being apart.

Mukerji has crafted a film about characters he clearly cares about and wants you to do the same, where even if the conclusion is a tad convenient, it’s the one you want to see. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is predictable but who cares? Romance is back with a bang and it is exuberant, entertaining, dazzling and worth your time.

When the songs aren’t playing, however, this is a daftly childish film, one where most actors act half their age and the narrative stumbles forward inanely and gracelessly. What should have been a breeze turns into a pained plod, and while things still look all glossy, the songless part of the movie -- the story, we dare say? -- remains dismally predictable and awfully contrived, eventually becoming quite a bore.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a been-here, seen-this, much-too-long glossy creature, and not much else. But the thing with the best rom-coms is how the oldest story in the world — boy meets girl, and they live happily ever after — gets a fresh telling. On that crucial test, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani scores low.

Director Ayan Mukerji’s second outing at the Box Office, after ‘Wake Up Sid’, is light, frothy at the primary level – and delves somewhat into the deeper recesses of human emotions at the secondary level. However, one thing emerges tall – ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is an extremely pleasant watch. In a nutshell, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is no heavy or preachy business. It is meant to be enjoyed and it does its job well. Apart from a few parts where the pace of the film drops badly, Ayan Mukherji’s handiwork is a breezy, enjoyable one. Three stars for this!

While Wake up Sid was more personal, YJHD seems like a chapter that will resonate with everyone. Deepika and Ranbir's tryst with romance, the denials and acceptance, frustration of not being able to live certain moments all over again, are just some of the emotions that are drawn out of every day scenarios. Mukherjee keeps it real. Between the dazzle of Manish Malhotra's sequins, slick production value, and a robust item song by Madhuri Dixit, lies a simple story of vulnerability, and fear of loss.

What’s Good: The film is appetizingly mushy in keeping a lavish doze of realism in it.What’s Bad: The film is built on a jaded idea that could have gone bad, but luckily doesn’t. Watch or Not?: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a delicious entertainer. Though the story is packed with its generous share of clichés, it still works endearingly! Deepika and Ranbir render on screen an irresistible chemistry. It is half way through the year and finally here is 2013′s first true to the word blockbuster film.

Even his love story – a demure girl-next-door who skips her heartbeat for the commitment-phobic boy – isn’t novel, but his leading cast makes it work.To Ayan’s credit, he does the unthinkable and makes the stereotypes work, rather convincingly, through stunning frames and killer tunes. While ‘YJHD’ is formulaic, and nothing exceptional in terms of story, Ayan’s narrative’s got style and flair, and he textures it gorgeously. For most parts, ‘YJHD’ isn’t damaging and does make a fun, frothy buddy flick. If anything, we expected Ayan to stay away from the unpredictable in the end, but that is where he falters. That aside, we’d propose you step out of your homes and allow Ranbir and Deepika to take you on a fun ride that you won’t regret.

Fast and Furious 6 Movie Review

Anupama Chopra didn't review Fast and Furious this week

It's the well-choreographed action sequence by Olivier Schneider that is brilliantly captured by Cinematographer Stephen F. Windon and the snappy edits that make "Fast & Furious 6" a thrilling adventure.

The story might be simple, but director Justin Lin and writer Chris Morgan fail to pay attention to the holistic logic of the sequences in the film.

Like a well-oiled engine, the Fast & Furious series can be counted on to deliver what it promises on the box: gleaming cars, thrilling chases, and buff stars who look like they’ve stepped out of the pages of a fitness magazine. The new installment, Fast & Furious 6 is just as dumb as the previous films, and its action scenes so furiously edited that it’s hard to tell who’s doing what, and to whom. But, as we’ve come to learn, that’s the charm of these movies…the stunts are outrageous, and the plot basic enough for an eight-year-old to enjoy.I’m going with three out of five for Fast & Furious 6. It’s loud and noisy, and a lot of fun even if it doesn’t make much sense.

Clocking in at over two hours, the film is filled with all the high-octane speed chases and close combat scenes we've come to expect from the franchise. And while it doesn't disappoint in the outrageously and shamelessly fun bang-em-cars, road rage and the cheesy humour departments, it does drag by taking "detours" and self-discovery trip subplots that could easily have been done without. The girl-on-girl fight scenes are actually more kick-ass than the ones with the guys. That being said, this one's purely for fans of the franchise and action junkies alike.

The Fast And The Furious 6 isn’t about niggling details like plot and character as long as the stunts can be amped up -- and this time they reach a level so ludicrous that the film ends up like an animated film. Without heart but with a whole lot of sparkle, and even more volume. Physics? How dare you, sir? There’s lunacy. And there’s energy. And while this is an utterly stupid film that seems almost proud of being unmemorable, it mostly amuses. Oh, and Gina Carano is awesome.

There is a proportionality between the size of Vin Diesel's biceps and the number of car chases in Fast & Furious 6. As the films gets older, the characters get bulkier and the story line thinner. Fans of the series who loved the repertoire between the characters about engine specs and rev speed, might be disappointed as majority of the story focuses on family ties and Dom's revived loved life. The second half puts the adrenaline rush in third gear and takes the story line beyond the rubber burns and skid marks. Lin focuses on the emotional bonds between the characters making them more than just steroid studs. But there are moments when you feel that how many more explosions and chases do you have to sit through? Also, you sense a bit of haste and hurry as Lin tries to wrap up the climax which has a giant airplane in the centre piece.

It’s time to fasten the seat belts, gulp at the screeches and slam-biff-kapows, and pray hard that all the guys and gals out there in Fast and Furious 6, survive yet another edition of hell on wheels. Despite the cornball storyline and that extreme sense of deja phew, this addition to the 12-year-old franchise, still has you fixated – a guilty pleasure, perhaps, of watching a galaxy of high-end car brands –a Dodge Challenger, Nisaans and Aston Martins – vrooom right before your eyes for a length of 130 minutes.Overlong that, especially for an actioner on speed. The upside is that you do get your ticket money’s worth.

Those who have followed the series will enjoy the comfort and camaraderie that the ensemble cast share. But for first timers, even though the relationships from the previous films are not explained, the humor makes up for it. Apart from fast cars & action, the hand to hand combat moves away from the beefy bald men to the tough ladies. The emphasis on family, loyalty and friendship are endearing and familiar for fans of the series and double up as good leverage to alienate the scheming bad guys with no scruples against the good guys.Verdict: An explosive evolution of the F and F series. Includes all the ingredients that make the film go “Boom”.

That provides just enough plot to propel the movie from car chase to car chase. These flashy smashies and a climactic sequence, in which the good guys try to prevent Shaw from taking off in an airliner by tethering their cars to it, make the movie a satisfying thrill ride, at least on a par with the earlier installments. A nice twist near the end is well disguised, and a coda hints at what’s to come in Part 7.
