Bumboo Movie Review
Ratings:1.5/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Site: BollywoodHungama
BUMBOO boasts of an interesting concept. Unfortunately, the writing is
painfully taxing, while the execution is plain amateurish, especially
the closing stages of the movie. What also makes the movie-going
experience cumbersome is the fact that the scenes are stretched for no
reason and the laughs are scarce and forced. A man saves the life of a
stranger and lives to regret it... Ideally, the black comedy had the
potential to have you rolling in the aisles. But the Hindi adaptation is
sketchy and theatrical at most times. On the whole, BUMBOO tries too
hard to be funny and that's why it misfires. Besides, a weak script,
abrupt conclusion and bizarre characters only go against it!

You know that thing called 'thay-ter' - where people go on stage, speak
really loudly, open their eyes wide and laugh uproariously to make
their point? Well, 'thay-ter' can be good - but transported to cinema,
it can stretch a bit thin. And feature some awkward moments - of which Bumboo has a few.
Except for the 'thay-ter' - that wide-eyed overacting with incessant
PJs, gay no-jokes, even some vomiting. Peppy background music lifts the
bar frequently while cracks on screwdrivers and biwi-chors help. But
Bumboo gets shafted by its lapses into lavatory humour - and too much
thay-ter for cinema.

The good thing about 'Bumboo' is its climax. You can certainly laugh
towards the end. And yes, Mika Singh's song during the credits is worth
dancing.Message of the film fails to reach the spectator because Sanjay
Mishra gives a really long 'speech' before coming to the crux of the
matter.'Bumboo' is a film made with good intentions but somehow the
makers couldn't transform the original idea onto the celluloid. You can
always watch 'Bumboo' to support the storytellers who dare to go against
the established market norms.

The film is supposed to be funny, but the boring and chaotic situations
keep the motive away from the film and seem to be a far-fetched dream.
The story is unnecessarily dragged in the second half and makes you sit
at the edge of your seat, just to run away. In the movie, ‘Bumboo’ signifies troubled waters (vaat lagna) and if you
wish to be away from such an experience, this movie is strictly
prohibited. If you are still looking for a reason to buy a ticket then
talented actors like Sharat Saxena, Sanjay Mishra and Kavin Dave trying
their best to make you laugh, could be one possible reason to give it a
try.

Blood Money Movie Review
Ratings:1.5/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site: IBNLive (CNN IBN)
Filmed indifferently, and without infusing the urgency that this kind of
plot demands, first-time director Vishal Mahadkar delivers a
bore-a-thon of a movie, complete with archaic dialogues and stereotypes
for characters. Predictable from start to finish, the movie unfolds at an excruciatingly
slow pace, and throws up no surprises – not even the ‘twist’ in the
end, which you will more than likely guess. Even the film’s key
plot-point – the crisis of conscience that our hero goes through – is
treated so matter-of-factly that you can’t help wondering if the
director was as tuned-off as you are.I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for Blood Money. Watch it if you’re having trouble sleeping lately.

The protagonist and his emotions in BLOOD MONEY are very relevant and
relatable. He imagines life like every other man. In fact, anyone who
aspires to make his/her life superior would be able to relate to the
passion of this guy. However, after an extremely absorbing initiation,
after establishing the plot so well in the first hour, the film falters
towards its post-interval portions. The typical middle class guy, all of
a sudden, starts punching the villain's brawny henchmen, after giving
them a good chase. Despite being viciously stabbed. Unexpectedly, from a
credible, plausible zone, the film deviates into a hard-to-absorb
masala-ridden fare that relies on heroism and intrepidness to prove a
point. A persuasive culmination, in keeping with the quintessence of the
film, would've only enhanced the impact of the second hour.On the
whole, BLOOD MONEY is old wine with a brand new label. A decent and
absorbing first hour coupled with soulful music are its aces, although
the mediocre, outmoded writing in the post-interval portions leave you a
little miffed. At best, a fair attempt!

This
one has all the toppings of a 'Bhatt shocker' - drama, emotion, tragedy
and some sex. Once again they push the bedroom threshold - a
semi-erotic, steamy scene between two women - every man's turn-on
fantasy. Debutant director, (Vishal S Mahadkar), tells the story well,
though some scenes are very stretched, and tries too hard to provoke a
reaction. A faster pace, more potent dialogues, not to add some more dum
in Kunal's voice, and a better background score - would have had
greater impact. While this one is engaging, it's not the 'rock' you'd die for.

Only this is not The Firm and its sloppily written script is incapable
of constructing gravity or drama. Blood Money is inexcusably one-note
and short on buildup -- things just happen one after the other like a
flat, muted series of badly-shot stilted music videos. You don't have to
be a diamond expert to tell a gem from a pebble. And so, unless stale
stories, bad acting and bungled possibilities capture your fancy, Blood
Money is much too sluggish, simplistic and boring to bother.

Blood Money’s trailer gives out the film in 2.05 minutes. And if those
posters of Kunal Khemu in the pool with a bunch of babes are stimulating
enough to drag you to the theatre, think twice. The lead pair salvages
the film to an extent, but a limited scope of the script binds them both
from making it an entertaining trip. The out of sync sound in many
scenes makes Blood Moneytechnically unstable. Add to all this
innumerable songs. Wait for Blood Money’s television premier. Or else,
watch the trailer. Why waste 2.5 hours on something you can watch in
2.05 minutes

The narration begins on a thin note with some ultra-intruding songs
which do nothing but hamper the flow of the story. In the midst of the
pre-interval moments, one starts drawing comparisons with the same
banner’s Jannat. Amrita like Sonal feels lonely as her husband Kunal
like Emraan is engrossed in his profession. What adds to the agony is
absurd climax beginning with bruised Kunal manage to escape the office
with important documents with no sign of security guards in the
premises. Secondly, he effortlessly manages to get in touch of Interpol
despite his super influential boss acting like a watchdog.Good
performances, direction, cinematography and editing are strong points.
Poor script, loose screenplay and music are drawbacks.Overall, Blood
Money is like an old wine in new bottle and can be easily given a miss.

Agent Vinod Movie Review
Ratings:2/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site: IBNLive (CNN IBN)
For a large portion of Agent Vinod, you don’t know where things are
going…and then it all stretches on so needlessly that you stop caring.
Given that this is a film that sees itself as a desi-style Bond, it has
glaring loopholes that are embarrassing. The action in the film is
choreographed slickly, but you can’t help feeling a tad let down. In
these days of visceral fight scenes and breathless chases that you’re
accustomed to seeing in the Bourne, Bond, and Mission Impossible movies,
the rapid editing of the action sequences here never allows you to take
in the repercussions of the violence. What cripples the film even
further is its uneven pacing.I’m going with two out of five for Agent
Vinod. He’s a spy who knows how to save the day; he just needs a better
plan.

One expects AGENT VINOD to be an elegantly defined story with an
exquisitely structured screenplay with some unanticipated betrayals,
sensational locations, slick action but with the absence of gadgets. If
that's precisely the way you are looking at AGENT VINOD unleashing
before your eyes, you've got it right. Contrasting the spy movies made
in Bollywood, this one's truly bona fide and swanks of a pertinent
plotline. An ambitious script, set in various countries, AGENT VINOD is
by far the most credible secret agent movie made in Bollywood. This
hi-octane thriller has style and substance, both! On the whole, AGENT
VINOD is a hi-octane espionage thriller with a heart. It is not just
brawny and dynamic, but witty and crazy too. Ultra slick and stylish,
this desi Bond movie adheres to the formula and succeeds in meeting the
humungous expectations. AGENT VINOD has all the potential to develop
into a triumphant franchise!

What’s Good: The action sequences; the stylized cinematography; the
snappy editing. What’s Bad: The ordinary story; the unnecessarily
confusing script; the lack of an emotional connection between the
audience and the protagonist; the absence of chemistry between Saif and
Kareena’s characters; the laughable climax.Verdict: Agent Vinod is a
bold experiment gone wrong; certainly not something that entertains in
its entirety.Watch it only if you want to see an Indian spy movie. But
be warned that it comes nowhere closer to the Bond or the Bourne series
of Hollywood films.

If only Agent Vinod were a video game. It has all the hallmarks of a
classicSo yes, as a game it'd be sensational, and tremendous fun. As a
film, on the other hand, Agent Vinod must be termed a disappointment, a
slick and well-produced throwback to the spy thriller that feels both
overlong and under-conceived. Agent Vinod wants to be funny, and while
there is the occasional burst of wit, it's exhaustingly rare. Agent
Vinod may be the best looking actioner we've seen, and Sriram Raghavan
may be a unanimous choice to hold the joystick, but watching him play
this particular game shows him distracted by the window dressing -- and
not trying hard enough to save the princess.

Agent Vinod is also attempting to be too many things - a slick thriller
to match Hollywood but also a cheeky homage to cheesy Bollywood movies.
So the film has gloss and fast-paced action but the villains are a
throwback to the 1980s - after all, how seriously can you take Gulshan
Grover in a white suit or Prem Chopra with a ponytail or Shahbaz Khan
with one glass eye?.The result is that Agent Vinod never becomes more
than the sum of its parts and even though it picks up speed in the
second half, it leaves you both exhausted and unsatisfied. But I enjoyed
the character of Agent Vinod. If he does get a sequel, I hope he has a
better narrative to romp in.

Agent Vinod is not quite the overwhelming experience that you would want
a global espionage thriller to be. More thoughtful than thundering,
more la Carre and less Bond it nonetheless take the spy genre in Hindi
to a new level of finesse. Finally, the cool quotient in Raghavan's chic
spin on the espionage thriller is so high that you forget Bond and all
his bloody brothers.

Despite miraculous leaps in production values, spy thrillers in
Bollywood end up looking like Chinese equivalents of western products.
And here, the characters are even stereotyped to the extent of
detectives wearing trench coats and moles being obvious, shifty-eyed and
literally uncomfortable in their own skin. So let’s just say foreign
locales, weapons to annihilate the world, designer suits and
not-so-excruciating interrogations don’t cumulatively justify ‘Agent
Vinod’ as a thrilling movie-watching experience.

The first 40 minutes of the film are intriguing and simultaneously
confusing. It is bifurcated into sub-plots, which add adventure to the
story. But, the flip side is that some sequences look completely
illogical.Brilliant performances, dialogues, cinematography and
innovative screenplay are the strengths. A slightly confusing direction,
misleading music at some points with no relevance to the theme are the
weak points. On the whole, Agent Vinod is not a flawless venture, but if
you are hungry for experimental cinema, this is the movie to die for.

Agent Vinod had massive potential though. Some dialogues sparkle, and
the film is slicker than most Bollywood films that claim to be stylish
action thrillers.Sriram Raghavan’s Agent Vinod is brilliant in bits, and
incredibly asinine in others. It’s probably the most inconsistently
good film I’ve watched lately, and a massive letdown. Which is a pity.
It could have made for a rare, looked-forward-to franchise.

All of that is acceptable
as long as the intended espionage thriller has an inventive storyline.
But after a world tour across half a dozen countries, the film
culminates with a traditional climax where the Indian capital faces a
nuclear-threat. The time bomb has to be detected, decoded and
deactivated.The
film starts with an interesting prologue in Afghanistan and ends with a
witty epilogue in London. How we wish the globetrotting in between was
as much compelling. The film is entertaining but not in entirety. Agent Vinod gets the nod though not whole-heartedly!

'Agent Vinod’ starts on a promising note in Afghanistan where a Vinod is
trapped by at a Lashkar hideout. He along with his team member Rajan
Gandhi (Ravi Kissen) find a way out of it with bullet firing and
bombings. The movie has traces of the Bond series, Raghavan’s ‘Ek Hasina
Thi’, Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Dus’ and Mani Shankars’ ’16 December’. The film
has a few moments that are really good and you want them to stay but the
graph isn’t stable and has its ups and downs. The film also had a
number of loopholes, with unexplained situations, wasted actors and so
on. Plus points: Few camera angles, a few dialogues, Saif and Bebo’s
chemistry and ofcourse, Ram Kapoor (you can practically watch the movie
for him)
