'Ghayal Returns' first look |
"Everyone remembers that Sunny's character commits multiple crimes and virtually captures the streets of Mumbai before killing the villain Balwant Rai (played by Amrish Puri) in full public view. He was also arrested by ACP Joe D'Souza (Om Puri) in the end. It is impossible to believe that he may have been elevated to the position of a cop since these crimes would have led to multiple cases filed against him", says a film buff.
However, with the sequel Ghayal Returns proudly pitching him as a cop, one wonders whether this is indeed a sequel in motion or a franchise being put in place?
Says director Ashwini Chaudhary, "Rest assured, this is definitely a sequel in place. We are taking forward the story of Ajay Mehra. As for the cop part, there are many people who are asking me this question. I am glad that this has managed to create an intrigue factor. In the teaser we have intentionally used a recap shot where he is shown behind bars. Now that he is seen in uniform, people want to know how Sunny turned into a cop, if at all he indeed is playing one."
So is Sunny indeed playing a cop or not?
"See, I am not trying to mislead anyone", says Chaudhary in a reluctant tone, "Audience would be seeing Sunny in uniform for sure. However it is too soon to reveal whether he is truly a cop or not in the film. Guess we would know more of that in 2012 when the film releases."
What can be seen pretty clearly is that after Salman Khan (Dabangg), Ajay Devgn (Singham), Abhishek Bachchan (Dum Maaro Dum, Game), Nana Patekar (Shagird) and Aamir Khan (yet untitled film by Reema Kagti), Sunny Deol too is returning to the basics and playing a cop.
"Well, all I can say is that Sunny is the real action hero and he has proved that time and again. You would realise that in Ghayal Returns as well", says Ashwini in an assured tone before signing off.
