Azaan Movie Review

A thriller works only if it's got that nail-biting edge-of-the-seat quality. That's where AZAAN stumbles. What you carry home are a few moments, which aren't enough. The piece de resistence is undoubtedly that car chase and the subsequent crash in the pre-climax. The conclusion, though well filmed, appears like a rushed job and also seems implausible. On the whole, AZAAN boasts of a novel theme [Bioterrorism] and superb action scenes/stunts/chases is its biggest USP. But the film could've done with a taut script. Nonetheless, AZAAN should find some flavor with lovers of action movies.

Don't go looking for something really deep and incisive in this popcorn thriller which has nothing to boast about except its exotic locales and its high decibel action cuts. The film hurtles across the globe as Azaan chases the evil Doctor and his gang in Germany, Poland, Hong Kong, Morocco...and tries to bring them to book before they smuggle the killer virus to Indian shores. Enjoy the action.

Though Azaan is arguably the best-looking action film shot in India, it neither flaunts its resources nor takes the narrative on a world tour just for the heck of it.Azaan takes the action genre in this country to a new level of finesse and restraint. The script is layered, though not quite free of inconsistencies and of questionable moral and political tenets as it would like us to believe.Azaan is not a film which wastes time in self-congratulation after staging one more terrorist explosion. It moves on relentlessly. The world has to be saved. Self-importance is miraculously averted.

In fact, the movie reminds one of MI 2 most of the time, which could be its undoing because the comparison only shows it in very poor light. It is a badly made movie by Prashant Chadha though beautifully shot by Alex Fisher. Some stunts are good, but they are not original, and once again they remind one of MI 2 and Transporter. This film is one jerky ride as it keeps on jumping from one country to another for no rhyme or reason -- Poland, Germany [ Images ], Hong Kong and Morocco among them. The only reason MAY BE you can watch this film, is for this world tour and Alex Fisher's cinematography.

At one moment you are in South Africa, the next in Germany, then somewhere in Poland, Hong Kong, Thailand, and France, not to forget India. Every few minutes Director Prashant Chaddha takes you somewhere... But all the time he engages in warfare. Khat khat khat khat khat... goes the machine gun, or boom goes the bomb... there's action galore. You are left like a spectator in a circus seeing the pyrotechnics on screen with no clue as what the story is.Story? Yes, there was a story and a back story, but somewhere, Chadha conveniently hides his weak script behind action, more action and some more action. That's not enough buddy! Give us a story, and a sensible link!In short, AZAAN is a cocktail of TASHAAN, BLUE and DRONA.The two stars are solely for the action scenes and top class production standards.

Actions lovers might have a reason to spend money on Azaan, but people who demand strong storyline BEWARE! Different countries, high voltage action and Playboy cover girl Candice Boucher on a beach for few seconds can be another credible ground on which you can push yourself to grab a seat. Shabby story treatment takes away the motive from the film, making it utterly tasteless. It’s a beautiful cake with no sugar!

The feel of Azaan  is very international as it is shot at the most exotic locations of the world. But the mediocre dialogues and a confused storyline lets it down. Adding the love track between Azaan and Afreen (Candice Boucher) was not explained well and seemed rather unnecessary. The film seemed a little emotionless as the lead star. The direction was confused. Cinematography definitely stole the show and the background score was good too apart from a few negligible flaws here and there. The dialogues were a major let down.Final verdict: once watch
